General Info

The 48th General Conference met June 25-29, Monday through Friday, at Huntington College in Huntington, Ind. About 75 delegates came from around the world, including each of our national conferences--the United States, Canada, Sierra Leone, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Hong Kong. Bishop Ray Seilhamer chaired all of the meetings.

Structure took center-stage on both Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, the delegates approved a new international structure--truly a historic thing which changes how UB churches in different countries relate to each other. It's report 63.

On Wednesday, they approved a new structure for the United States National Conference which makes some major changes. It's report 72. There were a lot of amendments.

On Thursday, the US National Conference elected new officials: Paul Hirschy as Bishop, and Gary Dilley as Director of Global Ministries. They will assume office on August 15. Paul has been Director of Church Services for the denomination since 1981. Gary is pastor of First Love UB in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

And on Friday, the delegates finished up a variety of proposals affecting the US National Conference, with only the US delegtes involved. Then the entire General Conference reconvened. Reports were made concerning each country's governing documents. Then the delegates voted on accepting each national conference into the worldwide membership of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ International. Each national conference was approved.

Daily highlights of the proceedings were placed on the UB website throughout the week. On the left you'll find links for each day.
