Michindoh Conference
Unanimously approved by a special session of the Michindoh Annual Conference February 9, 2002
Resolution 1 on Open Theism
Be it resolved that Michindoh Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ affirms that God's knowledge of all past, present, and future events is exhaustive and infallible, that this Divine knowledge comprehends all future decisions and actions of free moral agents, and, that the "Openness" view of God's foreknowledge is contrary to our denomination's historic understanding of God's omniscience.
Resolution 2 on Inclusivism
Be it resolved that Michindoh Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, upholding God's sovereign grace and the Confession of Faith of the United Brethren in Christ, namely articles 2 and 5, affirms:
- The sole sufficiency and efficacy of faith in the atoning death of Christ for the salvation of mankind.
- That apart from a personal acceptance of Christ as Savior in which Christ takes up residence in the human heart as a result of such faith (Ephesians 3:17, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9, 10, 13), it is impossible for man to be saved.
- That all followers of other religions are lost and blind sinners (2 Corinthians 6:16-18) needing to believe and receive the Good News of Christ through faith during their lifetime in order to be saved (Romans 10:14-15, Hebrews 9:27).
Resolution 3 on the Heretical Nature of Open Theism and Inclusivism
Be it resolved that Michindoh Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ renounces as heretical the theological positions known as "Open Theism" and "Inclusivism." We call on the Church of the United Brethren in Christ to forbid any who hold such views as biblical truth from teaching positions at Huntington College and pastoral positions in the churches of our denomination.
Resolution 4
Be it resolved that Michindoh Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ calls for the chairmen of the Ministerial Licensing and Ordination Commissions of our conferences to be an established group that is consulted regarding hirings in the area of Bible and Religion at Huntington College, as well as to address theological concerns from our churches regarding the consistency of the teachings at Huntington College in the area of our Confession of Faith and Official Doctrinal Positions, and that they formally notify the Director of Education and Educational Leadership Team of its concerns.
Resolution 5
Be it resolved that Michindoh Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ calls for a thorough review and study by the Huntington College Board of Trustees or their contracted objective third party of the process in the hiring of Dr. John Sanders.
