Seminaries Approved
for Ordination

in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ

Criteria for Approval

For a graduate school to be approved the following criteria must be met:

1. The school must be evangelical in nature.

2. The doctrine of the school must be compatible with the United Brethren Confession of Faith.

3. The school must be accredited by the Association of Theological Schools or a regional accrediting agency (such as the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education or the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools).

4. The school must offer a program that matches favorably with the Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry at the Huntington University Graduate School of Christian Ministries, which is recognized by the Education Leadership Team of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ as the basic standard for ordination.

Huntington University Graduate School of Christian Ministries

The basic standard for ordination in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ is the Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry offered by the Huntington University Graduate School of Christian Ministries.

Master of Divinity Options

The following schools have Master of Divinity degrees that are approved for ordination in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Additional Master of Divinity options will be considered by the Pastoral Ministry Leadership Team upon request.

Master of Arts Options

The following schools offer a Master of Arts degree in pastoral ministry or pastoral studies which has also been approved for ordination in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Specific names of these degrees vary from institution to institution, and not all Master of Arts degrees offered by these institutions will meet ordination requirements. Additional Master of Divinity options will be considered by the Pastoral Ministry Leadership Team upon request.
