Strategic Transition Plan | Church Consultation Weekend | Assessment Report Example 1 | Assessment Report Example 2 | Congregational Self-Study

A Consultation Weekend

Prior To

The church completes a self-study and gets it to the assessment team leader at least two weeks ahead of the assessment weekend. The leader then reviews the materials and develops a set of 50-80 questions out of that material.

Friday

The day is spent interviewing:

  • The pastor.
  • The staff (paid and lay who have responsibility for a segment of the ministry).
  • The pastor’s wife (with him present).
  • Friday evening, a focus group consisting of 25-30 people is interviewed with these three questions:
  • What do you like most about the church?
  • What do you think are the greatest concerns for the church?
  • If an angel appeared and gave you the ability to change one thing about your church, what would it be?

Saturday

Saturday is spent with the pastor and church leaders (elders or board) to go over the patterns heard during the interviews and to hear clearly their desires for their church, their vision, and their passions. It is also a time to observe any conflicts between pastor and leaders or to hear of other issues that may be hindering the church.

A report is then compiled by the assessment team listing:

  • The top five qualities of the church.
  • The five biggest concerns.
  • Five prescriptions (including dates and persons responsible) to assist the church in moving ahead.

The assessor goes over the report with the pastor and leaders early Sunday morning and then preaches a vision message to the church. After the service Sunday or later in the day, the report is presented to the church and special prayer is given over the leadership for its implementation.

During that time, a commitment is also announced on our part to coach and resource the leadership team in fulfilling the plan.

Note: Each church will be asked to fund the expenses for the assessment team as an investment in the process.
