UB Youth Summit

2008 Youth Workers Summit

Youth workers from United Brethren churches throughout the US will gather in Florida April 28--May 2 for the annual UB Youth Workers Summit. It's a great time for networking with fellow youth workers, sharing ideas, and learning how to do it better.

This year's speaker is Dave Rahn, who is well-known to youth workers in the United Brethren church and far beyond. He's a vice president of Youth for Christ, plus a professor at Huntington University since 1985. Dave's morning devotionals and evening sessions will challenge youthworkers in their personal walk more.

The opening night features a great chance to unwind from a day of travel and catch up with old friends. The evening kicks off with an ocean-side cookout followed by the 2008 Wii Games, including fabulous prizes (that look a lot like leftover t-shirts from recent youth events at a church near you!). The evening rounds out with the obligatory run to Starbucks by the Sea.

The registrants will need to sign up for one of the workshops in the following slots:

Tuesday 9:30 AM:
1- Keeping Pace with MySpace (A Closer Look at FaceBook)
2- Kommunikating with Kids (Beyond the Bulletin)

Tuesday 11:00 AM:
1- Strategery for Student Ministry Success
2- Talking to Teens Without Putting Them to Sleep

Wednesday 9:30 AM:
1- ePrep: Using Modern Day Technology to Communicate Ageless Truth
2- Service Doesn't Only Take Place on Sunday Morning (Making a Difference
Through Missions)

Wednesday 11:00 AM:
1- My Teens Have Issues! (What Do I Do With Them-- and Their Issues?)
2- Reinventing Sunday School (And Keeping Your Job)

Matt McKeown, youth pastor at the Daytona UB church, will lead the worship with a decidedly "un-plugged" feel to help us focus on what God want to say to our hearts without risk of being distracted by fabulous instrumentals and drum solos.

Early registration (before April 3): $75.
After that: $95.

As for meals, Summit provides breakfast and lunch--and even a couple of suppers--but at least Wednesday evening supper will be on your own. The Friday is left open for travel as many fly out early that morning.

Note: This event isn't designed as a bring-your-spouse event. Your registration fee includes deluxe lodging at First UB Church in bunkhouse-style rooms. Due to the type of rooms at the church, married couples are difficult for us to accommodate. In addition, networking with other youth pastors is a key component of what we’re trying to achieve at the Summit. It’s often difficult for us to accomplish that type of networking when spouses are present. Don’t get us wrong--we think marriage is a fabulous institution, but this event is intended solely for youthworkers themselves.
